Weddings
Weddings are an obvious speciality of MyWeddingDisco.com and I think it is important to share my thoughts in more detail in this part of the website. You may have lots of birthday parties, but you will have very few wedding days, perhaps only one, and time and careful planning needs to be undertaken to ensure that you have the day that you wish for. A day that both you and your guests will enjoy and remember for many years.
I have DJ’d at thousands of functions and hundreds of weddings and it is true that they have not ALL been fantastic. But as with other functions at which i work i will guarantee to put a great deal of effort in the planning and work involved to ensure that your special day is as good as it can be for you and your guests.
Many people underestimate the importance of hiring high quality disco entertainment for their wedding. It is always surprising that quite frequently when calls come into the office the first question i got asked by a potential customer when they phone up to book their wedding disco is “How much do you charge for a wedding?” This question often is asked before i have even checked the availability of the night.
Price seems to be the main concern and not what is being offered for that price. It is true that couples spend thousands of pounds on their weddings. In fact, figures published estimate the average cost of a wedding to be £15,000 pounds and rising.
Would you buy a wedding dress just on price without knowing what it would look like, fit etc.?
Would you order the wedding meal for your wedding without knowing what you and your guests were going to be eating?
Costs for a wedding these days can spiral, but it is surprising that some couples will try and haggle a price on their disco when they may have spent hundreds on balloons, invitations, ice sculptures and table decorations which, while looking great, are not really going to ensure that your guests have a good time and a day and evening to really remember.
Modern Bride Magazine have conducted a survey and found that couples spend on average only 5% of their total budget on entertainment for their wedding. This will include the DJ, bands, magicians & acoustic musicians (string quartets and harpists for instance).
It is also a fact that the reception can account for nearly 40% of the day in terms of time. Therefore, surely it is worth carefully considering how you are going to carefully spend your money in this area?
The reception is the celebration of your day, a time when the formalities of the day may be dispensed with and a time that you and your guests can really enjoy themselves dancing and having fun.
Selecting the right entertainer and music for your reception is very important. A publication quoted recently that “If a guest gets a bad meal or a watered-down drink they will be the only one who knows. If a DJ or band plays the wrong music, everyone knows”.
Even if you never book me for your wedding reception please do not make the mistake of spending thousands of pounds on your wedding and saving a few pounds by hiring second-rate entertainment. Remember, the entertainment is one of THE most important elements of your big day and that more than twice as many guests will remember the performance of your DJ or entertainer, over ANY other aspect of your wedding reception.
